Is the Booth Back?
SEPTEMBER 20, 2017
The booth is back. No, not the photo booth or the classic red booth at a 1950’s Diner and certainly not the polling booth. I’m talking about that fixed furniture with the slide in seating.
To test my theory I spoke with our fabulous, Cleo Vaughan from Knight Frank’s PMBC and she confirmed my suspicions.
“A booth provides collaboration but with a sense of privacy, which is what is so appealing. People like to be around others but still have an element of separation and sound proofing. Booths with Audio Visual display capabilities are very popular within fitouts now. They provide the perfect setting for an informal meeting of up to 4 people, often internally. They allow meeting spaces to be cost effective as opposed to providing built meeting rooms, which would also require air conditioning – Win win” – Cleo Vaughan
WeWork’s property gurus, Jonathan Kearins and George Mair, both confirmed that the WeWork telephone booths and the open four seater booth options were very popular. They felt these spaces were often the first to be occupied. In WeWork’s latest Sydney space, at 333 George Street, where they have designed space over five floors, we went on the hunt for vacant booths and were fortunate to come across a couple of available spots, in their busy co-working environment. We were grateful to Jonathan and George to capture these shots, highlighting the popular, cosy and semi-private spaces which are in keen demand.
